Location: Lowell, MA (Hybrid)
Compensation: $18–$24/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: 15–20 hours per week
Duration: Spring or Summer Internship

About the Role

Kids in Tech is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented university student to join our team as a Programs Intern, supporting the development and delivery of STEM afterschool programs.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about STEM education, curriculum design, and youth development. The intern will help strengthen and expand curriculum across elementary, middle, and high school programs-ensuring content is engaging, structured, and scalable.

This is a hybrid role with required in-person participation in Lowell, MA for program support, team collaboration, and community events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Revise and enhance existing STEM curriculum (e.g., Scratch, Aviation, Environmental Justice)
  • Develop lesson plans, slide decks, and instructional materials for grades K–12
  • Support expansion into high school programming (grades 9–12)
  • Translate concepts into clear, engaging, age-appropriate lessons
  • Organize curriculum into a structured resource library for instructors
  • Assist with preparation for programs, events, and outreach activities
  • Support community events and STEM engagement initiatives
  • Document curriculum updates and program activities

What Success Looks Like (By Week 6)

  • Develop or revise approximately 12 STEM lesson plans across grade levels
  • Build a structured curriculum library with at least 3 thematic units (e.g., coding, engineering, environmental science)
  • Support at least one program cycle or community event

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student
  • Strong interest in STEM education and working with youth
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to work independently
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace

Preferred:

  • Experience with afterschool programs, camps, tutoring, or informal education
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Creative and proactive mindset
