Position Overview
At Kids In Need Foundation, our volunteer partners do more than enrich our work – they ground us to our mission of providing essential support and supplies to under-resourced students and teachers. The Volunteer Engagement Manager position is an integral part of the Volunteer Engagement team, executing a best-in-class experience for volunteers at our Little Canada, Minnesota headquarters. This position requires experience managing a dynamic team in a fast-paced setting with proven exemplary customer service experience and excellent communication skills. This role fosters cross departmental collaboration in many ways including but not limited to; ensuring volunteer workflows directly support current supply chain and distribution schedules; coordinating volunteers to support the Teacher Resource Center; working with all departments to help lead skills-based opportunities; and creating opportunity for a volunteer to donor pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Strategy and Program Development
- Develop and implement a scalable volunteer recruitment and engagement strategy aligned with KINF’s mission and growth goals
- Identify opportunities to increase and expand volunteer participation across corporate, community, and individual audiences
- Build a structured volunteer program that supports both ongoing operations and special initiatives and events
- Track and analyze volunteer engagement metrics (participation, retention, impact) to inform program growth
Volunteer Experience and Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, creating a welcoming, mission-driven experience
- Design volunteer experiences that connect participants to KINF’s impact and deepen engagement
- Lead orientation and on-site engagement, ensuring volunteers understand their role in supporting students and teachers
- Build systems for communication, scheduling, and follow-up to strengthen long-term relationships
Event Coordination and Execution
- Plan and manage public and private group volunteer events, including corporate volunteer engagements
- Coordinate logistics for large-scale volunteer activities such as backpack builds, supply sorting, and packing events
- Ensure events are well-organized, efficient, and aligned with operational needs and timelines
- Collaborate with Impact Partnerships to support corporate engagement opportunities tied to volunteerism
Operations and Fulfillment Support
- Partner closely with Operations and Fulfillment teams to align volunteer activities with real-time inventory and distribution needs
- Support execution of supply packing, sorting, and distribution efforts through volunteer coordination
- Work with the Minnesota Teacher Resource Center team to ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into daily operations
- Translate operational needs into clear, actionable volunteer tasks
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Impact Partnerships to support donor and corporate volunteer engagement opportunities
- Partner with Mission Impact to ensure volunteer work aligns with program priorities and community needs
- Coordinate with Marketing and Communications (as applicable) to share volunteer stories and impact
- Collaborate with Accounting and Finance to establish and manage department/team budget

Required Qualifications & Skills
- A combination of education and experience typically attained through bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in volunteer recruitment and management
- Proven experience leading and supervising a team in a mission driven organization
- Exceptional customer service, problem solving, and communication skills
- Possess a high degree of cultural awareness and respect
- Willingness to work occasional evening/weekend events and spend approximately 5-10% of work time attending volunteer engagement/management conferences/seminars
- Passion for KINF’s mission and commitment to creating meaningful community experiences
- Familiarity with volunteer management systems or CRM tools
- Experience collaborating across teams such as mission impact, operations, and partnerships
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and move up to typically up to 30 pounds, and spend time standing or moving throughout the volunteer area
- Moderate noise level
- May include extensive use of computer, keyboard and mouse
- Use pallet jack to move products around
- Ability to travel to events 2-3 times a year
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range:
- $55,000 - 65,000
