Duties
- Curriculum Implementation: Organize and implement developmentally appropriate activities based on the VPK curriculum standards. Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the individual learning needs of each child. Incorporate literacy, numeracy, science, social studies, arts, and physical education into daily activities.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment. Establish and enforce age-appropriate behavior expectations and routines. Manage classroom materials and resources effectively, ensuring a clean, organized learning space.
- Assessments and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments of children’s progress using formal and informal methods. Prepare progress reports and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding children’s development. Use assessment data to adjust teaching strategies and activities to meet individual needs.
- Parent and Family Engagement: Build strong relationships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and involvement in classroom activities. Provide resources and suggestions to parents for supporting their child’s development at home.
- Compliance and Safety: Follow all state and local guidelines for VPK programs, ensuring all requirements are met. Maintain a safe and secure environment, including following child supervision protocols and emergency procedures. Stay current with VPK regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
- Professional Development: Attend professional development workshops and trainings to stay up-to-date on current educational practices and early childhood development. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in staff meetings and professional learning communities.
Requirements
- Education: CDA License, 45 Hour DCF Completion is required. Must hold a valid VPK certification or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Experience: Prior experience teaching preschool-aged children, preferably in a VPK or similar early childhood education setting.
- Skills: Strong understanding of child development principles. Ability to create a positive and stimulating learning environment. Excellent communication skills, both with children and adults. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
