Job Title: Assistant Center Director – Kiddie Academy of Helotes
The Assistant Director supports the Director in the daily operations of the preschool, ensuring full compliance with Texas Child Care Licensing (CCL) Minimum Standards. This role helps maintain a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children while providing leadership and support to staff and families.
Key Responsibilities:Licensing & Compliance
- Ensure the center operates in full compliance with Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards
- Assist with maintaining required documentation, records, and children’s files
- Support the Director during licensing inspections and ensure readiness at all times
- Monitor classrooms for compliance with ratios, supervision, and safety regulations
Staff Support & Supervision
- Help recruit, train, and onboard new staff in accordance with licensing requirements
- Ensure all staff meet training hours, background checks, and ongoing professional development requirements
- Provide coaching, support, and regular feedback to teachers
- Step into classrooms as needed to maintain ratios and ensure quality care
- Provide support in kitchen operations as needed to ensure timely meal service and adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
Program & Curriculum Oversight
- Support implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with age groups
- Ensure teachers are following daily schedules and lesson plans
- Monitor classrooms to ensure activities support children’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development
Health & Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for children and staff
- Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed (handwashing, disinfecting, illness policies)
- Monitor use of safety systems (secure entry, alarms, emergency procedures)
- Ensure proper supervision at all times, including playground and transitions
Family Communication & Enrollment
- Build strong relationships with families and provide excellent customer service
- Assist with tours, enrollment, and retention efforts
- Address parent questions and concerns in a professional and timely manner
Administrative Support
- Assist with scheduling staff to maintain required ratios
- Support attendance tracking, billing coordination, and general office duties
- Help manage daily operations in the Director’s absence
- Responsible for driving the school passenger van for student transportation, including school pick up and drop off and occasional field trips
Qualifications:
- Must meet Texas Child Care Licensing requirements for an Assistant Director
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required); Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education (preferred)
- 4 years Minimum required experience in a licensed childcare center
- 2 years minimum in Administrative role at a licensed childcare center
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
- Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
- Leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Food Managers License
- Highly professional and dependable
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Ability to actively engage with children (sitting, standing, bending, playing)
