The Curriculum Coordinator organizationally falls under the Director of Kickapoo Community Childcare Center (KCCC) as operated by the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma. Operational hours are Monday through Friday; 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. or as may be needed. The purpose of this position is to perform those duties as may be commonly associated with the responsibility of daily developmentally appropriate activities at the center to ensure that teaching staff provide high-quality early learning opportunities and child development services that promote children’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth. The Curriculum Coordinator will ensure that teachers embed data-driven, responsive, and effective teacher-child interactions. The Curriculum Coordinator monitors curriculum implementation and fidelity; provides support, feedback, and supervision for continuous improvement to include regular monitoring of daily lesson plans, assessment of classroom arrangements, Creative Curriculum, TSG, and appropriate and individualized classroom arrangements.

 

Essential Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities

Tasks are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Supervise teachers in the implementation of the curriculum
  • Train & mentor in appropriate teaching strategies
  • Coordination of Staff Development plans for teaching staff
  • Coordinate and implement developmental screening and assessments
  • Support teacher’s implementation of high-quality interaction as defined by best practices
  • Coordinate the collection, analysis, communication, and dissemination of data
  • In charge of the daily schedule of classroom staff, which may include substituting in the classroom
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of classrooms
  • Ensure teaching staff comply with policies and procedures as well as licensing requirements
  • Supervise teachers and communicate regularly with director and assistant director providing relevant information
  • Ensure classrooms have materials needed to implement curriculum with fidelity
  • Assist in the coordination of parent teacher conferences
  • Oversee the implementation of the Family Involvement activities, including family partnership and family orientation
  • Maintain standards of confidentiality of child and family records
  • Ability to multitask, manage time, meet deadlines, and remain calm and professional under pressure and stressful conditions
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety practices
  • Ensure compliance with OKDHS Licensing, STARS, local, state, federal, and other applicable regulations and standards
  • Serve as a mentor for teachers
  • Implement the processes for ongoing monitoring of all programs to include monthly classroom observations, review of files, review of lesson plans, review and follow-up on all data.  
  • Monitor, train, and provide technical support to Early Learning classroom teachers in the implementation of the curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices.  
  • Coordinate & attend multidisciplinary meetings as needed.  
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, orientation, and ongoing professional development of teaching staff

                    Other duties may be assigned by the KCCC Director and/or the Assistant Director.

Qualifications:

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications

Experience and Education:   

  • Bachelor’s in early childhood education, child development, or related field preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development or a related field with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.
  • 3 years of experience in early childhood education with increasing levels of administrative responsibility required
  • 1 year of the required experience must be at the supervisory level in an early childhood setting, or licensed day care center required. 

Qualifications Required

  • Current driver's license
  • Must pass background checks
  • Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification

Position Qualification Preferences

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Must pass fingerprint clearance test from all appropriate agencies (such as FBI, Department of Justice, and Child Abuse Index Services).
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position responsibilities.
  • Must meet applicable requirements for staff caring for children as set in DHS Rules and Regulations when they are responsible for children for any part of the day.
  • Must be CPR Certified in age appropriate first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Must have and OKDHS approved child passenger safety course within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be computer proficient in office excel and word.
  • Must have ability to communicate (English and/or Kickapoo) in an effective manner.
  • Must maintain all Continuing Education Units as may be required for licensure and specialty certification or as may be necessary to evidence professional growth.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid, active and unrestricted Oklahoma driver’s license throughout employment.
  • Must attend a defensive driving course and be renewed as required.
  • Ability to be courteous, tactful, and cooperative throughout the day.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to all phases of the job duties.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, such as the computer, printers, copies, embossing and shredding machines.

Work Environment

Ability to work under pressure and maintain personal composure, evaluate situations, and act/react appropriately, and use tact in dealing with staff, visitors, clients, and difficult situations.

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job.  Normal childcare conditions exist as do conditions with the other associated programs and services.   Noise levels, stress, and child flow will vary but may be considered high.    

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear/listen.  There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading as well as standing.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance and computer and color vision.  Talking and listening are essential to communicate with patients/clients, staff, and peers.

 

There are constant deadlines associated with this position.  The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wide variety of people on various and, at times, complicated and diverse issues.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions, including maintaining of CEU’s.

  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
