Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) is looking for a bus driver to provide daily transportation for students to and from school and for special events like field trips. This position is full time. KCS is a dual language (Tewa/English) Tribally Controlled Grant school serving Santa Clara Pueblo. We currently serve approximately 125 families, prenatal through 6th grade, and adult learners. KCS is a school grounded in providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that are culturally centered on Tewa language proficiency and interactive, hands-on learning. We support students in their physical and emotional growth as well, valuing student identity and promoting and modeling high self-esteem and confidence.
The Bus Driver reports to the Director of Operations as their direct supervisor and is responsible for transporting KCS students to and from school daily. Bus Drivers must be able to work independently to meet deadlines, be capable of safely operating a school bus in a distracting environment and have the skills to manage all aspects of a small school transportation department including arranging for and scheduling maintenance and repairs. The Bus Drivers full-time employment would assist the facilities manager and custodian with maintenance/upkeep of buildings and grounds. As part of the operations team, the bus driver also assists with the food service program.
Applicants for this position must have a valid NM Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a school bus endorsement (or be willing to get one). Two years of experience driving a school bus is preferred. Knowledge of Pueblo customs and the Tewa language are not required but preferred. KCS follows the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472) which promotes filling vacancies with qualified Indian candidates - consideration of non-Indian applicants will be made in the absence of qualified Indian candidates.
