RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Salt Lake City, UT that is seeking a Food Scientist to develop and improve innovative food and nutrition products across multiple formats, including bars, powdered beverages, and ready-to-drink products. This position will take ownership of formulation and product development initiatives from early-stage concept through scale-up and commercialization. The Scientist will use food science, formulation expertise, and experimental design to solve technical challenges, improve product performance, and ensure formulas can successfully transition into manufacturing.
What You'll Do:
* Manage multiple product development and formulation projects from concept through commercialization
* Develop new formulas and optimize existing products across bars, powdered beverages, and ready-to-drink applications
* Plan and execute experiments to evaluate formulation performance, stability, processing requirements, and manufacturability
* Lead pilot-scale production activities and make formulation adjustments based on testing and manufacturing results
* Troubleshoot formulation and production challenges and develop practical solutions that support reliable manufacturing
* Partner with ingredient suppliers to evaluate new ingredients and technologies that can improve product performance and the consumer experience
* Create, review, and maintain technical materials such as development reports, SOPs, risk assessments, and validation documentation
* Provide technical direction when projects encounter complex formulation, processing, or scale-up challenges
* Collaborate closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and other internal teams to successfully transfer products into production
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related discipline
* 5-8 years of professional experience in food formulation and product development
* Strong hands-on experience developing and modifying product formulations
* Experience applying experimental design principles within an R&D or product-development environment
* Ability to manage several development projects simultaneously and work effectively with cross-functional teams
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and technical writing skills
* Experience developing food bars is strongly preferred
Preferred Experience:
* Experience taking formulations from the development stage through pilot production, validation, scale-up, and commercial manufacturing
* Background developing bars, powdered drink products, and/or ready-to-drink beverages
* Experience coaching or mentoring less-experienced scientists or technical team members
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on formulation experience, enjoys tackling complex product-development problems, and is comfortable working across R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and external ingredient partners.
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
