Kforce has a client that is seeking a Java Developer in Fargo, ND. Overview: Join a well-established organization undergoing a multi-year modernization of a mission-critical insurance administration platform that has been in place for decades. This team is transforming a legacy COBOL/mainframe-based system into a modern Java-based architecture. This is a hands-on senior-level role where you will play a key part in system design, development, and modernization efforts while collaborating closely with both technical and business stakeholders. What You'll Do:

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.

- Java Developer will design, develop, and maintain applications that support critical business operations
- Contribute to modernization efforts, helping transition legacy systems into a scalable Java-based environment
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical decision-making
- Lead implementation of complex solutions and refine them based on feedback
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and business partners to improve system capabilities
- As a Java Developer, you will identify technical challenges and help drive solutions that align with business needs
- Mentor junior and mid-level team members
- Continuously improve development practices and system performance
- 8 years of software development experience
- Experience mentoring developers and influencing technical direction
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
- Interest in learning new technologies and contributing to long-term system improvements
- Java (17 )
- Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security)
- REST API development
- Relational databases and SQL
- JUnit or similar testing frameworks
- TypeScript
- Angular
- HTML5
- Git
- Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tooling
- SQL Server
- Legacy system modernization initiatives
- Exposure to COBOL or mainframe environments
- VSAM or similar data storage technologies
- Experience in insurance or financial services domains
