Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused School Van Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting students safely and efficiently to and from school, field trips, and other educational activities. This role requires a strong commitment to student safety, punctuality, and professionalism, while maintaining compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations and local district policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school van along assigned routes and schedules while following all traffic laws and company policies.
- Pick up and drop off students at designated locations on time and with a focus on safety and care.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, including the proper use of seatbelts and adherence to student behavioral guidelines.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any safety or maintenance concerns immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle.
- Promptly report incidents, delays, or student behavior issues to the Transportation Coordinator.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff, parents, and students.
- Accurately maintain trip logs, mileage, and fuel usage records as required.
- Follow PDE and district guidelines, especially when transporting students with special needs or behavioral support plans.
- Attend mandatory safety training sessions and driver meetings.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 21 years old (per Pennsylvania law).
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Child Abuse History Clearance
- FBI Fingerprinting Clearance
- Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing as required by state and federal law.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to providing safe and courteous service.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and assist students as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience transporting students or passengers professionally.
- Knowledge of local roads and school district transportation policies.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Work Schedule
- Part-time, split shift schedule during the school year (morning,mid day and afternoon runs).
- Extra hours may be available for field trips or summer programs.
