Position Summary
The Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician Position is responsible for identifying the best methods for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens and performing the correct screening procedures for laboratory testing.
Essential Responsibilities
- Verify test requisitions by reading test orders
- Verify patient by reading patient identification
- Direct observe all urine collections
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients
- Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks
- Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
- Maintain quality results by following department procedures, testing schedule, and recording results in the quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Enhance laboratory department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude
- Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high volume, fast paced environment
- Consistently adhere to business procedure guidelines
- Must have reliable transportation

Position Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in blood sticks/draws required
- Urine collection experience is a plus
- High school diploma
- Ability to handle large, fluctuating volumes of work
- Strong PC, keyboarding and typing skills
- Strong customer focus
