Responsibilities
- Advise on a broad range of employee benefits matters, including qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health & welfare plans, and employee well-being programs
- Provide legal guidance on ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, mental health parity, fiduciary governance, and related federal and state laws
- Support the design, implementation, amendment, and administration of benefit plans, including drafting and reviewing plan documents, SPDs, amendments, and participant communications
- Partner with HR and Benefits teams on compliance testing, reporting, disclosures, audits, and regulatory inquiries
- Support benefits committee governance, including review of committee materials, resolutions, and minutes
- Manage and coordinate outside counsel, consultants, and vendors
- Provide benefits-related legal support for M&A, divestitures, and workforce restructuring
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide practical, business-oriented guidance
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5 years of experience practicing employee benefits law (law firm and/or in-house)
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA, tax-qualified retirement plans, and health & welfare compliance
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, actionable advice
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented approach
- In-house experience at a large, complex organization
- Experience supporting global benefits programs
- Experience with benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions
