Organization Overview

Founded in 1968, Kualoa-Heʻeia Ecumenical Youth (KEY) Project is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to nurturing the well-being of people and ʻāina by supporting, serving, and sustaining our community. Serving residents from Waimea to Waimānalo, KEY Project provides programs that strengthen food security, cultural connection, youth development, kūpuna wellness, and disaster resilience.

Position Summary

The purpose of the Nohona Hawaiʻi Program Coordinator is to support the mission of KEY Project through the continuous development of the Nohona Hawaiʻi ʻOhana Event Program. This position participates in organizational programming and community service through collaboration with team members and external partnerships to further KEY’s reach into its designated service area. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement all activities for Nohona Hawaiʻi ʻOhana Event Programming.  
  • Execute event schedule as designated by grant requirements and KEY Project management.
  • Coordinate facility reservations, event set up, and clean up.
  • Manage partnership with cultural practitioners: including tracking practitioner invoicing, event scheduling, identifying needed materials.
  • Source meals/snacks and activity supplies for each event as needed.
  • Promote Nohona Hawaiʻi events to KEY Project service area community members through a variety of modes (newsletter, website blurbs, social media, booths at community events).
  • Collect and maintain documentation for accounting and grant reporting purposes including event schedule, event attendance, practitioner stipends, food invoicing, and participant feedback surveys. 
  • Create and submit reports with collected data as requested.
  • Collaborate with ED, CDC, Program Manager and cultural practitioners to deliver high quality programming and ensure alignment with Hawaiian culture, connectedness, and community building. 
  • Perform general clerical duties to include but not limited to: scanning, copying, mailing, etc.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

  • Brachelor's Degree in Hawaiian Studies, Hawaiian Language or other related fields, or commensurate experience
  • Experience: At least 2 years of program planning experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing events
  • Communications and marketing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, Canva, etc.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, practices, language, and ʻāina
  • Valid Hawaiʻi driver's license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.

Preferred qualifications: 

  • 1 year supervisory experience that includes training and supervising staff. 
  • 1 year of budget management experience.
  • Have general cultural knowledge of Waiheʻe and surrounding ahupuaʻa.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certification.

Working conditions 

This is a full time, non-exempt position with occasional evening and weekend availability required, as needed, in support of programming goals. The primary duties of this position are performed in office with periodic offsite functions.  

Physical requirements 

This position requires sedentary work sitting at a desk, the ability to lift 25 pounds, walking and moving around the office and all facilities, including second floor/upstairs.  Job duties also require working in outdoor environments with various terrain and conditions, both on and off campus.

Compensation

Starting Pay: $45K - $50K per year.

Employment is contingent upon grant funding.

Background Screening

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
