Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented full-charge bookkeeper to oversee the complete day-to-day accounting functions of our nonprofit organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, completing bookkeeping processes, preparing financial reports, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements. The ideal candidate is self-directed, trustworthy, and experienced in nonprofit financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all bookkeeping and accounting functions for the organization
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts via Quickbooks Online
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
- Prepare grant budgets, track expenditures and prepare financial reports for grant compliance
- Process payroll and maintain payroll records
- Prepare monthly financial reports
- Assist with budget preparation and cash flow monitoring
- Prepare documentation for annual audits and IRS Form 990 filings
- Maintain internal financial controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting practices
- Collaborate with leadership, board treasurer and external accountants
- Maintain confidentiality of donor, employee, and financial information
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and restricted fund tracking
- Experience handling full-cycle bookkeeping independently
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Skilled user in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision
Work Environment
- Part-time position with flexible hours, approximately 60-70 hours per month
- Hybrid work model
- Occasional evening or weekend hours to support organization events
Compensation
- Salary commensurate with experience, $28-$34/hour
- Please note: This is a 1099 independent contractor role and a background check is required
Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
