The Role: Strategic Leadership and Technical Excellence
The Engineering Manager is the central figure for technical operations, responsible for guiding a team of engineers, overseeing capital investments, and ensuring all processes meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities and Impact:
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
- Strategic Project Management: Own the planning, budgeting, and execution of all major capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from concept to commissioning. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance specifications.
- Process Optimization: Oversee the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies to drive significant improvements in cost, quality, and output.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating closely with Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, and other areas to support new product launches and resolve complex technical issues.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities adhere to regulatory standards, company safety protocols, and quality requirements (e.g., IATF/TS, APQP, PPAP).
What You'll Be Doing: Daily & Long-Term Focus
- Set departmental goals, manage workloads, and conduct performance reviews for the engineering staff.
- Develop and manage the engineering department's operating budget.
- Drive the investigation and root cause analysis of critical process and equipment failures, implementing long-term corrective actions.
- Approve engineering designs, specifications, and changes.
- Evaluate new technologies and equipment for potential adoption, creating the business case for investment.
- Oversee plant layouts, capacity planning, and efficiency modeling to support future growth.
- Mentoring, coaching, and training for the successful progression of the engineering team.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related technical field) is required.
- Experience: Progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership or management role desired (indirect leadership of JR engineers is acceptable)
- Automotive manufacturing environment experience is required.
- Lean / Six Sigma: Strong problem-solving and improvement tools and expertise
- Proven Success: Demonstrated track record of successfully managing major capital projects and leading or being involved in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation, tooling, and equipment design. PLC required. Maintenance leadership or experience is an additional plus.
- Leadership: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
