Summary

The Director of Lightner Library provides leadership for Keuka College’s library, ensuring effective and continuously improved operations and delivery of student-centered library services. The Director of Lightner Library plays a key role in supporting the academic mission of the college by fostering research, learning, information literacy, and scholarly engagement. This role oversees all library operations, including staffing, budgeting, collections, information literacy support, research instruction and programming, technology integration, and community services. The Director leads the development, implementation, and assessment of systems and workflows to organize and document existing records, processes, and spaces so they align with the operational plan and overarching goal of library modernization and student and faculty engagement.

Essential Responsibilities


Leadership & Administration

  • Provide overall leadership, planning, and management of library services and operations, including the systematic organization and documentation of files, records, documentation, workflows, and physical spaces based on assessment
  • Establish clear, sustainable procedures and documentation standards to support consistent operations
  • Develop and implement the library’s operational plan aligned with the college’s mission and goals towards greater modernization, access, and engagement
  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate library staff and student employees
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented work environment
  • Represent the library in academic and administrative committees and meetings (e.g., Academic Council)

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the library budget, including collections, staffing, and technology
  • Oversee procurement of library materials, databases, and subscriptions in accordance with the annual budget
  • Collaborate with Information Technology on the management of subscriptions and user interface to provide intended services and meet users’ needs
  • Ensure effective allocation and stewardship of resources

Collections & Information Resources

  • Oversee development, evaluation, and maintenance of print and electronic collections
  • Ensure access to high-quality academic resources supporting curriculum and research needs
  • In partnership with Information Technology, Purchasing, and the Provost’s Office, manage vendor contracts and licensing agreements

Instruction & Student Support

  • In partnership with academic divisions, lead information literacy initiatives and integrate library instruction into the curriculum
  • Collaborate with division chairs and faculty to support teaching, learning, and research
  • Promote faculty and student success through teaching and organizing workshops, research support, and programs
  • Partner with the Academic Success Center and other relevant offices to create engaging programming and effective utilization of library spaces for student programs

Technology & Innovation

  • Oversee library systems, discovery tools, and digital resources
  • Lead adoption of emerging technologies to enhance access and user experience
  • Support digital scholarship and open educational resources (OER) initiatives

Campus Engagement & Collaboration

  • Build strong partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and administrative offices
  • Participate in College committees and shared governance as appropriate
  • Represent the library in campus-wide planning and initiatives
  • Update the website and LibGuides or SharePoint, along with periodic information sharing (e.g., newsletters) to inform and engage the College

Assessment & Reporting

  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to evaluate library services and impact
  • In partnership with the Provost’s Office and Institutional Research, prepare periodic reports on library usage, outcomes, and progress, in time to inform planning and budgeting for the following fiscal year
  • Use data to inform continuous improvement and enhanced operations
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible academic library experience
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience, including supervision of student library workers
  • Experience in a college or university library
  • At least 3 years of experience as a faculty member at a college or university
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic library services, information literacy, artificial intelligence, open access, and digital resources
  • Instructional experience and/or experience designing learning resources
  • Proficiency with integrated library systems and academic technologies and systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft apps and tools such as SharePoint
  • Record of collaboration with faculty, students, and staff
  • Record of supporting student and faculty success
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think strategically and implement long-term plans
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial management and budgeting experience
  • Experience with accreditation processes and academic assessment

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting of books and equipment up to 25 lbs
  • Prolonged sitting
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for events or special projects.

Salary : $75,000 - $78,000
