We’re Hiring: Director of Human Resources
Location: Dayton, OH | Hybrid / In Person
Reports to: Vice President for People & Culture
Salary range: $120,000 - $140,000
At the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, we advance inclusive democracies by countering authoritarianism, fostering citizen engagement, and promoting accountability in government. We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to support our mission-driven team by leading the day-to-day operations of HR. In this role, you will partner closely with the Vice President for People & Culture to strengthen HR practices that align with the Foundation’s mission and long-term goals. You will support the full employee lifecycle—including talent acquisition and retention, employee relations, performance management, and organizational performance reviews—while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws. You will also collaborate on compensation, benefits, and workforce strategy, helping to foster a people-centered, outcomes-focused culture committed to continuous improvement. This role is based in our Dayton, Ohio headquarters, with occasional travel to our Washington, D.C. office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily HR operations with a people-centered approach
- Advise and partner with managers on employee relations, compliance, and organizational performance
- Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and retention strategies
- Support compensation, benefits, and workforce planning
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Collaborate with the VP for People & Culture to design and strengthen HR practices aligned with the Foundation’s mission and strategic goals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
- 5 years of experience as a human resource manager
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to think creatively in developing effective solutions to challenging problem.
