What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Direct Support Professionals position at KETCH Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped?
A summer career opportunity with a higher purpose! $14.35/hr. Daytime shifts M-F Apply by May 1st. Teaching, caregiving, educating, training, coaching and direct care are a few of the roles. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) get the opportunity to expand their career skills by providing supports to adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities in day program settings. Successful candidates will receive $14.35/hr. plus an excellent paid training opportunity. Summer DSPs will focus on promoting independence by assisting individuals in achieving their goals, and providing care and support.
Supports could include teaching and coaching individuals on how to:
-Become skilled at production/assembly work, develop good work habits and teamwork skills
-Participate in activities, exercise, use etiquette, develop coping skills and increase self esteem
-Prepare lunch, snacks, and operate household appliances
-Maintain personal hygiene, and maintain daily routines and weekly schedules
-Prepare for and participate in crafts, games, sports, community outings, and leisure activities
-Learn to use community resources, understand their rights, and increase safety awareness
Some positions may require assisting individuals with hygiene/personal care. Hiring immediately. EOE
Shifts available: Mon-Fri between 8a-4p full-time or part-time shifts.
Requirements for a SUMMER Direct Support Professional:
-Must be at least 18 years old
-Have a stable work history
-High school diploma or State accredited GED
-Valid driver’s license, a good driving record, dependable transportation, and auto insurance
-Be available to attend a two-week, daytime orientation M-F 8:00-4:00 5/11/26 through 5/22/26, or 6/1/26 through 6/12/26
-Knowledge regarding the needs of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is beneficial, but not required
-Be able to lift 50 lbs or 1/4 of own body weight - whichever is less
-Knowledge regarding the needs of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is beneficial, but not required
-Previous caregiving experience could be beneficial (CNA, CMA, HHA, Patient care, caregiver, elder care, Non-CNA care, restorative care)
-Other beneficial experience: CNA, CMA, Direct Care, HHA, caregiver, restorative aide, elder care, Independent skills trainer, Medical Aide, direct support, Medical Assistant, non CNA, nursing home, adult care, special education, Para, psychology, teaching, advocacy, home supports, mental Health, human services.
