Armed Security Officer Summary
Schedule:
- 3:00 pm- 11:00 pm with rotating days off and 6% shift differential added to base hourly rate.
Position Summary: Provides full armed security (fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry) services for the Crown Center Complex and Hallmark Headquarters. Patrols the premises to maintain order, enforce regulations, and ensure observance of applicable laws.
Essential Job Functions:
- Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic to maintain orderly flow throughout complex. Sounds alarm and/or coordinates emergency and other services, police, fire and/or ambulance from the scene.
- Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment in daily activity log for use by supervisory staff. Prepares reports as requested.
- Conducts inspections of fire extinguishers, performs testing of emergency/assist and life safety systems (panic buttons, assist stations, exit door alarms, panic buttons, fireman’s call elevator buttons, fire/emergency alarms, strobes, and speakers). Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain any occurrence of tampering.
- Patrols all office buildings, retail center, parking, dock areas and outside grounds, tenant areas (upon request), special events, and work sites. Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and security doors left unlocked.
- Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and expels or apprehends persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
Marginal Functions:
- Provides security and money escorts on request.
- Provides vehicle patrols.
- Provides officer presence in specific location or inside tenant space on request.

- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and two years related security experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess rudimentary mathematical skills, which include but are not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Comprehend and solve problems/situations involving multiple variables. Use independent judgment as it relates to situations and job response. Multitask and use organizational skills.

Environmental Conditions
- The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.

- The employee is required to wear a Company-issued uniform. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment and follow all Safety Regulations of the Company and governing agencies.
This is a public contact position requiring appropriate personal hair/beard grooming and no visible tattoos or body/face piercings.
Technical Skills
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License
- After hiring, must be able to complete American Red Cross training and obtain Professional Responder level certification.
- Must meet the KCPD firearms qualification requirement with a company issued firearm and maintain firearms proficiency.
- Carrying and use of a company issued firearm is a job requirement. Must obtain and maintain a valid Class A - Patrol Agent (Armed Security Officer) License issued by the Kansas City, Missouri, Board of Police Commissioners within sixty days of appointment as an Officer.
Computer Skills:
- Intermediate skills in the application of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook email, Word and Excel.
- Must be able to work radio equipment
- Proficient in web-based applications
Physical Demands
- The employee is regularly required to stand and walk; grip, push and pull using hands, manipulate and use firearm and handcuffs; reach and lift with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds and push/pull up to 60 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The ability to observe, view, monitor CCTVs and roving cameras.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to run to answer emergencies.
- The employee is required to operate a company-issued vehicle while performing required job duties.
- The employee must occasionally jump, hold, handcuff, and kneel during the context of their duties.
