qualifications: This position requires the ability to meet the physical requirements of the job; knowledge of grounds keeping and landscape methods and practices; safe use, maintenance and operation of grounds keeping tools and hand/motorized power equipment; safe use and application of pesticides and herbicides for pest/weed control purposes.
Must possess the skill to effectively and safely use hand and hand power tools associated with grounds keeping and landscape work; understand and follow both oral and written instructions; read and write at a level necessary to perform required duties successfully; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plant, cultivates, prunes, shapes, trims, waters and sprays trees, shrubs, plants and hedges; plant, fertilizes, waters, mows and cares for lawns; operates and maintains hand power tools and equipment including power mowers, power clippers, roto-tillers and other maintenance equipment/tools; uses hand tools to work soil and to remove weeds, undergrowth and debris from school grounds and landscaped areas; sweeps walkways, driveways and picks up other debris; rakes and hoes weeds; applies pesticides, herbicides to grounds and garden areas for pest/weed controls purposes; cleans sprinklers and irrigation systems and assists in the installation and repair of irrigation systems; cleans and maintains drainage areas; mows, drags, chalks, lines and marks athletic fields for scheduled events.
Will perform general grounds maintenance work; maintain hoses, supplies, tools and equipment in proper condition; assists with general custodial maintenance work as required; sets up portable bleachers for athletic events and special assemblies; reports unsafe hazards and conditions to appropriate authority; may direct the work of student assistants or other temporary help; performs related duties as required.
One year of paid experience in grounds keeping, landscape or general labor work is preferred.
MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CLASS "C" CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE. MUST SUBMIT A RECENT DMV (3 YEAR MINIMUM) DRIVING RECORD WITH APPLICATION.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE TRAINED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KERN HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S NEEDS WITH REGARDS TO ASBESTOS AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.
A PRE- EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: To perform general grounds maintenance and landscape work at an assigned school site in the District. Employees in this class receive supervision from a Custodial Plant Supervisor or his/her designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This position performs a variety of general grounds, landscapes and maintenance duties in the upkeep of assigned school sites and related areas.
STARTING SALARY: $3,612.29 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
