What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervising Agricultural Biologist/Weights and Measures Inspector position at Kern County?

Examination:
Appraisal (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any of the following: Investigation, oral exam and rating of the application.
 
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

This position works within the Kern County Department of Agriculture and Measurement Standards. For more information about the department , please view their website here.  

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:   
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a major that meets the minimum qualifications established by the California Secretary of Agriculture.

AND 

Possession of all eight (8) Agricultural Biologist and Weights and Measures Inspector licenses:
  • Pesticide Regulation
  • Investigation and Environmental Monitoring
  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Commodity Regulation
  • Pest Prevention and Plant Regulation
  • Weight Verification
  • Measurement Verification
  • Transaction and Product Verification
Three (3) years experience as an Agricultural Biologist and/or Weights and Measures Inspector.

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. A Class A or Class B California Driver's License may be required depending upon assignment.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made in the Kern County Agriculture and Measurement Standards Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. 

Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
