KEPPEL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT Associate Instructor – Preschool DEFINITION Under general supervision of Director of Preschool, to perform a variety of instructional activities designed to stimulate learning. Support the Preschool Instructor in the care and supervision of students. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 1. Direct Assist teacher in implementing educational and developmental activities for children. 2. Assist with the management of student behavior through use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques. 3. Assist with child's personal, physical needs, meals and snacks, safety, including toileting, etc. 4. Assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials. 5. Assist with planning of curriculum. 6. Administers routine first aid and requests appropriate assistance for serious injury or illness. 7. Participates, as requested, in parent conferences. 8. Confers, as needed, with the teacher, support staff, and other school personnel concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, and alerts teacher to any special circumstances and/or information concerning students' behavior and/or needs. 9. Assist with small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities. 10. Develop skills in methods of teaching. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned Board Approved: January 15, 2026
Requirements / Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • High School Diploma or its equivalent. • Completed two years at an institution of higher education or obtained an associate's or higher degree (or have met a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing) • Current CPR/First Aid certification • Hold or qualify for a Child Development "Associate" Teacher Permit (or higher). May be required to hold or present proof of application for Associate Teacher Permit to qualify as required by the Preschool Program. • Six months previous experience working in a preschool or classroom setting with preschool-aged children. • Bilingual desirable
Knowledge of: • Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavioral characteristics. • Student behavior management strategies and techniques. • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar. • Basic arithmetical concepts. Skills and Ability to: • Adhere to confidentiality laws regarding student information. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied ages. • Communicate effectively in oral and written form. • Understand and carry out oral and written directions. • Routinely and correctly lift and carry weights up to, but not to exceed 50 pounds
