Training Supervisor (Operator Instruction) - BRTA    

Hourly Wage Range: $23.10 - $28.71

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Must be over 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Computer literate.
  • 2 years’ experience coach operator training or similar.
  • Must have a valid CDL B with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
  • Prior union environment experience desired.

Skills:

  • Possess a working knowledge of adult education principles and practices 
  • Possess the skills necessary to write and express oneself orally in a logical, comprehensive and intelligent manner, as well as good organizational skills 
  • Possess the temperament necessary for maintaining amiable relations with various levels of company personnel 
  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word 
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others 
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and oral). 
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and/or days depending on the training need. 
  • Must be a USDOT TSI Certified Instructor or obtain within six months of employment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate training programs for new and existing coach operators
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve training curriculum, materials, and instructional methods
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, as well as internal policies and safety standards
  • Evaluate trainee performance through testing, observation, and ride-alongs; provide coaching and corrective feedback as needed
  • Manage and mentor a team of trainers and instructors, including scheduling, performance management, and professional development
  • Collaborate with operations, safety, and HR departments to identify training needs and address performance gaps
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure completion of required certifications and recertifications
  • Investigate incidents and recommend targeted retraining or corrective actions
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices to keep training programs current and effective
  • Support onboarding processes and contribute to workforce development initiatives

  • Long periods (potentially exceeding 8 hours per day) of walking, standing, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, twisting, squatting, handling materials, repetitive hand-wrist motions, and traversing uneven surfaces;
  • Exposure to both extreme heat and cold;
  • Exposure to loud noises, fumes, and airborne particles;

In addition to the above demands inherent in every role, the following roles may entail unique physical demands, including:

  • Operators/Drivers may work inside or outside vehicles and may operate vehicles for over 8 hours per day.
  • Operations Supervisors and Managers may split their work between an office setting looking at a computer screen/electronic device and active transit field locations driving in a vehicle.
  • Maintenance Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop and may work with personal computers, laptops, electronic hand-held devices, complex electrical schematics, diagnostic software and testing devices, and other heavy machinery.
  • Office Staff may work indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities, including offices and cubicle spaces equipped with a telephone and computer and may entail typing or looking at a computer screen.
