Drawbridge Operator maintains MBTA properties and commuter rail system within the Bridges and Buildings Department
Rate of pay: This is a unionized position. The pay rates are non-negotiable. The starting pay rate for this position is $31.43
Minimum Knowledge and Experience:
- Basic knowledge of nautical marine way, radio procedures, and Coast Guard rules and regulations pertaining to drawbridges
- Trade and or vocational training
Skills:
- Communicates successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff
Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties):
- Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic Performance
- Operates moveable bridges, including opening and closing procedures, to ensure safe passage for marine and rail traffic.
- Follows established safety protocols and operational procedures at all times.
- Assists other crafts with maintenance and troubleshooting related to bridge operations.
- Reports hazards, safety concerns, or operational issues promptly in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Completes other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent credential.
- Attendance and participation in all required training, including safety and security programs.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Ability to use basic hand tools.
- Work performed outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- Work at varying heights, up to 100 feet, on bridges and related structures.
- Daily travel to various Keolis sites and properties as assigned.
- Physical activities include walking, climbing, balancing, bending, lifting up to 60 pounds, talking, hearing, and driving.
- Exposure to loud noise environments.
- Shift work may be required, including off-shifts for special projects.
- On-call assignments as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
- Must be able to safely perform all duties listed above.
