Position: Crossing Guard
Position Purpose: Responsible for preparing crossing zone and assists children in crossing streets safely on a seasonal basis while children attend school.

Position: Crossing Guard
Position Purpose: Responsible for preparing crossing zone and assists children in crossing streets safely on a seasonal basis while children attend school.
Essential Job Functions
- As children arrive, takes them safely across the street, watching traffic closely and stopping cars if necessary.
- Process is repeated 2 times a day, when children travel to and from school.
- Acts as a liaison between children, parents, school administrators, and P.T.A.
- Participates in special events as asked by school administrators and/or P.T.A.
- Physical activity is required as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
- Knowledge of current Michigan traffic laws, emergency procedures, correct use of the English language
- Moderate responsibility for the care, condition and use of materials, equipment, and tools.
- Great responsibility for the use of discretion and independent judgment in the safe crossing of children.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, using proper grammar and spelling.
- Ability to work effectively with children, parents, and school employees.
- Ability to use accurate judgement of traffic flow, speed and direction of travel.
- Ability to prioritize activities.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
- Regular use of hand-held stop sign, reflector vest, and cones.

- Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
- Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
