Academic Advisor – Online Division

 

Kentucky Wesleyan College, a private, liberal arts college with a long-standing reputation for quality and academic excellence, invites applications for a part-time Academic Advisor to support our online student body.  This position will be part-time on-site with the potential to become hybrid.

 

Position Summary

The Academic Advisor will provide leadership and daily management of Kentucky Wesleyan College Online students. Among other duties, the advisor oversees academic advising and evaluates and recommends innovative concepts, technologies, and programs, while ensuring quality and consistency of academic advising across campus. This position will work closely with the Director of Online Learning to ensure timely communication with faculty and partner with faculty to address programmatic concerns.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one academic advising to students enrolled in online programs, helping them navigate course selection, degree requirements, and academic policies.
  • Guide students through academic challenges, providing resources and strategies for time management, study skills, and maintaining academic performance.
  • Monitor student academic progress and proactively reach out to students who may be struggling or at risk of not meeting program requirements. Follow up with students to track their success and provide continuous support.
  • Co-monitor the Early Alert system, manage referrals, seek resolutions, and close out alerts in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the office, set goals and outcomes, perform yearly assessments, provide regular reports, and employ strategies for improvement.
  • Actively engage in retention efforts by building strong relationships with students, offering resources for success, and encouraging continued enrollment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions, academic plans, and progress in the advising system.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Online Learning.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to higher education affairs, i.e. Student Affairs, College Personnel, Counseling, etc.
  • Previous experience in post-secondary student advising or student success.
  • This is an on-site position with the possibly of going hybrid. Candidates must have access to a reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate students in different time zones.
  • Commitment to promoting student success and encouraging outcomes-directed solutions.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports in a timely manner. 
  • Knowledge of trends, practices, and issues relevant to student success.

 

As a part time position, the expected scheduled hours will be 25-29 hours per week (3PM-7PM or 2PM-7PM CST each weekday).  The position description provides an overview of the level of work to be performed by an employee in this position and does not constitute a contract of employment.  This is not a comprehensive list of all duties, responsibilities, and/or qualifications, as the College reserves the right to change the description at any time.
