Full-time Frankfort-based position (some remote work flexibility)
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Executive Director, this position assumes overall responsibility for most aspects of communications and marketing for the association. The position advises association staff on communications issues, branding, quality control measures and related interdepartmental projects and programs.
Key Job Functions include but are not limited to:
- General supervisory responsibilities for Comm staff.
- Advises and, at times, manages communications aspects of interdepartmental projects, development of services.
- Oversees development and implementation of communications plans in coordination with other units.
- Serves as association’s primary media spokesperson and oversees earned-media opportunities: interviews, statements, media releases, op-eds, etc.
- Serves as special adviser to executive leadership on matters of crisis communications.
- Monitors and enforces adherence to association’s brand standards.
- In collaboration with department directors, oversees marketing strategy for all KSBA events, services and awareness campaigns.
- Serves as member of KSBA’s legislative advocacy team.
- Serves on writing staff for the Kentucky School Advocate magazine.
- Oversees KSBA Aware e-newsletter.
- Oversees and participates in production of graphics and video content in coordination with Comm staff and other units.
- Writes and/or edits various correspondence to members on behalf of association staff and KSBA officers.
- Manages contracted creative services such as graphic design and photography.
- Contributes to design and copywriting/editing for various association materials.
- Oversees websites of the association and KSBA Educational Foundation.
- Manages content on KSBA social media platforms in coordination with unit staff.
Qualifications included but are not limited to:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or communications-related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in communications, journalism, marketing, education or closely related field.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple and diverse projects and tasks.
- Must possess and exhibit professional maturity and dependability. Position requires employee to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Must be able to gather information through interviews, research, etc., for the purposes of analyzing and producing reports, memoranda, articles and consultation.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office and online applications.
- Willingness to learn and gain proficiency with related technology; project management software, database/CRM, emerging social media, Google analytics and others upon request.
- Must possess strong abilities for working with the news media, members and the public.
- Must be able to use still and video photographic equipment.
