In need of a Medical Assistant to work in an outpatient psychiatric clinic specializing with children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. This position will be under the direction of a Licensed Psychiatrist and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. Position is responsible for performing pre-loading tasks in EMR, vitals, review of systems, maintaining the medical records, completing medication authorizations, performing referrals to outside entities, performing prior authorization for testing internal and external to the practice, and monitoring and responding appropriately to faxes, emails and phone messages for the providers in the office.
Responsibilities:
- Record patient information such as vital signs, symptoms and other pertinent medical history prior to each appointment with the Medical Provider.
- Clean and prepare examination room prior to patient appointment and make sure no other patient identifying information is available to be viewed by the patients.
- Perform such tasks such as answering phone calls and greeting patients at time of their examination to ensure the patient has an overall good experience with the check-in process.
- Assist the Medical Providers and Practice Manager in maintaining the medical inventory, current medications and make sure all the medical history is current in the chart.
- Conduct exhibiting a high level of professionalism is required.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate and problem solve with the best interest of the patient as a priority.
- Navigate an EMR and be able to review and document all patient details, phone notes, medication reconciliation and any pertinent information regarding the patient treatment.
- Receive and return patient calls in an effective and timely manner to meet each patient's healthcare needs.
- Perform all required insurance prior authorizations for patient medication and test(s) internal and external to the practice in a timely manner.
- Compose all necessary letters on behalf of medical providers; complete school medication forms, disability paperwork, patient assistance forms and other paperwork as requested by the medical provider or patient, after obtaining provider approval.
- Excellent written communication, verbal communication and typing skills are required.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and comply with all PHI and HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform various lab testing to include medication monitoring via oral swab and UDS collection, genetics testing via oral swab, and insure results are received and entered/scanned to the EMR in a timely manner.
Education and Experience:
- Current CMA or RMA Certification preferred, but not required
- Current CPR and BLS certification.
- Minimum current 1 years of experience as Medical Assistant
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must possess principles of growth and development over the life span. Possess the ability to apply the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served in the medical practice while adhering to the organizational policies to administer patient care examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
