Starting Pay: $55,000/yr

Security Manager Job Summary:

The Security Manager assists the Sr. Director of Security in managing the Security team to provide the best quality of security and customer service while enforcing policies and regulations for all KPA-owned properties, patrons, and performers.

Security Manager Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of Kentucky Performing Arts while understanding and complying with company expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Plans work and executes tasks independently. Adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions with a positive and open mindset. Communicates clearly, consistently, respectfully, and collaboratively when communicating on behalf of KPA.
  • Participates in all appropriate internal and external meetings, as well as professional development programs to maintain competency and increase acumen.
  • Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve the mission and goals of KPA.
  • Manages Security staff, including but not limited to, hiring, scheduling, training, delegating tasks and performance management.
  • Coordinates internal and contracted staff resources to ensure that the unique security labor needs of various events are met appropriately.
  • Documents event-related financials promptly and accurately.
  • Coaches others in their professional development, exhibits a “can do” approach, and inspires associates to excel, while building a team spirit.
  • Complies with and oversees the compliance with KPA safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the oversight of the Security department budget.
  • Performs all necessary services to assure that the safety and protection of the building occupants and real and personal property against injury, molestation, loss or damage from any preventable cause, including but not limited to, fire, theft, trespass, sabotage, terrorism, and physical and/or verbal abuse.
  • Aids in obtaining professional assistance in accordance with local procedures in the event of injury or illness of employees or patrons within KPA venues or on KPA property.
  • Proficient with all security systems, including the ability to deal competently and quickly with smoke alarms, hold-up alarms, etc., and knows the correct procedures to follow on the fire systems.
  • Documents any incident of theft, employee misconduct, injury or vandalism by way of an incident report.
  • Oversees the logging of all incoming packages and mail received during and after normal working hours, including the verification of the received goods before signing for them, delivering them to the proper location, and maintaining the required documentation.
  • Maintains knowledge of all stairways and doors and the Security department designation for each area; knowledge of locations of all fire and emergency exits, stocks and/or materials of where stored on various floors and in various rooms and closets; locations of all fire alarm panels, emergency fire-fighting equipment, fire standpipe lines, fire hydrants and hose reels; locations of all valves controlling the supply of water to the sprinkler system; locations of extra sprinkler heads.
  • Observes and reports in writing to Engineering personnel any irregularities or malfunctions in equipment operations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Security Manager Essential Physical Responsibilities:

  • Keeps KPA-provided cell phone on their person at all times. This position is considered essential and on-call.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in all internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
  • Above average skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds unassisted with appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices. Ability to navigate all areas of the campus, both public and private.
  • Must be able to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays and be prepared to stay as long as is requested by department leadership with proper notification.
  • This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, in compliance with Kentucky Performing Arts policy.


Security Manager Education, License, and Skills:

  • 5 years of previous security experience, with 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have valid US driver’s license.
  • Must maintain adult CPR and AED certification.
