Facilities Associate

Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 230,000 visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the country and the world.

Position Purpose:

The primary purpose for this position is to assist in the general maintenance and cleanliness of the Museum. This position will also assist in setting up for special events at the Kentucky Derby Museum. This position will report to the Director of Facilities. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

• Sets up rooms for day, night, and evening events.
• Clean and maintains the facility, including cleaning bathrooms, trash disposal, vacuuming, painting, etc.
• Performs tasks on special projects list.
• Open and closes museum.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk up and down stairs, and work in inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret written information.
• Possess a friendly attitude and willing to work as a part of a team.
• Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal background check.
• Must have and maintain a valid state-issues driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to handle stress and pressure of high volume of visitors and customer service.

Work Schedule:

• Approximately 37.5 hours per week during operating hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM (open all days of the week).
• Longer hours are necessary during peak seasons such as Derby Week, Oaks, and the Sunday of Derby weekend, FFA weeks, and Breeders’ Cup, when held in Louisville.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and climb stairs. The employee is also frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. In addition, the employee is required to of twist, turn, stretch, and bend on a frequent basis. This individual will be required to lift and move up to 50lbs. The employee is required to have non-standard workday hours during the spring and fall sessions. All indoor spaces are air-conditioned, although some job duties may take place outside, or in another non-climate-controlled space.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a crowded work area. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to navigate a crowded area and handle a challenging workload.
