Mechanic

Heavy Equipment Mechanic

At Kentucky Cooperage, the Mechanic position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing forklifts, semi-trucks, trailers, and other automotive and mobile equipment that support manufacturing operations. This role is crucial for ensuring equipment uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Schedule: Mon-Fri (6:00 am - 2:30 pm)

Compensation: $26–$31 per hour, based on experience and skills

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on:
  • Forklifts (electric, propane, diesel)
  • Semi‑trucks, trailers, and yard trucks
• Company vehicles and light-duty automotive equipment
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
• Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, suspension, steering, and fuel systems
• Conduct DOT and OSHA‑related inspections and document repairs
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records (paper or CMMS)
• Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams on equipment availability
• Order parts and maintain inventory of tools and supplies
• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout standards, and environmental requirements
• Perform welding or fabrication as needed (if applicable)
• Keep the garage and work areas clean, organized, and safe
• Offsite visits to Distilleries for trailer repairs (if/when needed) using the company work truck

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 3 years of experience as a mechanic working on:
  • Forklifts, heavy equipment, or fleet vehicles
  • OR automotive / diesel mechanics in an industrial setting
• Clean driving record (based on background check)
• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands‑on diagnostic experience
• Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
• Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required, unless otherwise stated)
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in an industrial environment
