Summary

The Coach provides leadership for all aspects of their sport’s program at KCU. The Coach will be a mature Christian leader committed to utilizing their program as a tool for advancing the University’s Christ-centered mission; developing student-athletes from academic, spiritual, and educational perspectives; and, establishing a culture of performance excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Coach will advance the University’s mission to educate students for Christian leadership and service in the church and professions throughout the world. An overarching passion for this mission must be demonstrated by the head coach and upheld as a standard within all of their sport’s operations of the University.
  • The Coach, as a highly visible representative of the University, will represent the University in a Christ-honoring and professional manner, while also ensuring that others associated with the program do likewise.
  • The Coach will actively serve as a Christian mentor to student athletes.
  • The Coach shall monitor the academic progress of the student-athlete with the cooperation of faculty and academic administration.
  • The Coach will serve as supervisor over all part-time coaching staff (as well as selection of assistant coaches), and support personnel.
  • The Coach is responsible for the recruitment, training, and coaching of all student-athletes in the program.
  • The Coach is responsible for generating additional funds to support their program (i.e., sponsorships, summer camps, donor solicitation, etc.).
  • The Coach is responsible for scheduling and organizing travel for their team.
  • The Coach is responsible for maintaining an environment in which student-athletes demonstrate retention and graduation rates at or above those of the overall University. Concurrently, the Coach must maintain player numbers that are agreed-upon during each budget cycle.
  • The Coach is responsible for facilities care and maintenance.
  • The Coach is responsible for overall program administration, including the development and exercise of an annual budget.
  • The Coach is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the recruiting process, from prospect identification to scheduling and completing campus visits to final enrollment. A bias in favor of recruiting players from Kentucky and extending to KCU’s traditional “market” of contiguous states and constituent churches will be demonstrated in recruitment strategies and goals.
  • The Coach must be highly communicative with prospective students, families, and the overall campus community. Hence; attending University functions and events that would fall within the scope of marketing, and being the face of their program.
  • The Coach will maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
  • The Coach will ensure program integrity with regard to requirements of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the River States Conference (RSC) of the NAIA.
  • The Coach is responsible for communicating clearly and directly with the Athletic Director.
  • The Coach is responsible for updating and maintaining a scholarship basis/discount rate (which will be given by the Athletic Director) for their team in an organized and clear manner.
  • The Coach is accountable for maintaining roster numbers at the Athletic Department’s desired amount per academic year (amount will be given by Athletic Director).
  • Above items are a summary of responsibilities and not a comprehensive list. Additional duties may be assigned by the Athletic Director or KCU Administration.

The following requirements will be used when determining the person to fill the position of head coach:

  • The Coach will demonstrate spiritual maturity and a history of Christian leadership, and will enthusiastically utilize their sport as a tool in fostering spiritual growth in student athletes.
  • The Coach must enthusiastically support the mission and vision of Kentucky Christian University and its core values.
  • The Coach serves as a twelve-month employee and is eligible for all university benefits (i.e., health insurance, vacation, etc.).
  • A master’s degree is preferred, but applicants with lesser academic achievement will be considered.
  • Collegiate coaching experience is preferred.

OTHER ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

Current KCU operations and building design ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, lift, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing the work of a Coach (e.g., looking for items, carrying equipment and other items, loading the printer, stacking boxes, or searching the Sports Building and/or offices). All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Education: A master’s degree is preferred, and Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Experience: At least three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Values: The Coach must be sympathetic with the mission and purpose of Kentucky Christian University and enthusiastically support the University’s core values. The Coach must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others through their own work ethic. The Coach must accept ownership of their area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the University community as it relates to the nature, function, and scope of their sport program.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • The successful candidate must be adherent to the Stone-Campbell Restoration tradition (e.g. Christian Church and/or Churches of Christ).
  • Full-time salary Exempt position. Hours: M-F 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (noon), 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (some evening and weekend hours as needed for recruiting & coaching).
