We are seeking a California POST-certified investigator to conduct comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement candidates. The investigator will ensure full compliance with California POST Commission Regulations 1953-1955 , as well as agency-specific policies, maintaining the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities :
Conduct detailed pre-employment background investigations for sworn and non-sworn law enforcement candidates.Interview applicants, references, employers, neighbors, and other relevant contacts to verify personal, professional, and criminal history.Collect, analyze, and assess records, including criminal history, credit reports, employment records, military service, and educational credentials .Ensure all investigations align with the California POST Background Investigation Manual and comply with EEO, ADA, FCRA, and agency policies .Prepare thorough, objective, and well-documented investigative reports summarizing findings.Provide hiring authorities with timely updates, insights, and recommendations.Handle sensitive information with strict confidentiality and ethical responsibility.Minimum Qualifications :
California POST Background Investigator Certificate (Required).1-3 years of experience conducting law enforcement background investigations.In-depth knowledge of California laws, POST regulations, and investigative best practices .Strong interviewing, analytical, and report-writing skills .Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases simultaneously , and meet deadlines.Preferred Qualifications :
Prior law enforcement experience (sworn or non-sworn investigator).Experience handling high-risk or complex background investigations .Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages) is a plus.Work Environment :
