About the job: 

Kent is looking for a DCS Specialist to be based in Orange, TX and support regional project site(s). 

To schedule individual test activities, coordinating and supervising technicians performing site activities, ensuring instruments are perfectly configured and working optimally, delivering on safety, quality, time and costs of the tests in their remit.



Skills and Responsibilities:  


Responsibilities:

  • Assist and contribute to the project to meet its safety targets and advise safety improvements.
  • Coordinate/Communicate with other disciplines, Contractor, and Client.
  • Assist and support Project lead managers and directors to manage all aspects of projects from design to implementation and handover.
  • Review Contractor’s deliverables as required and ensure all Contractor’s engineering and design work performed meets contractual obligations, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner.
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the Client or to agreed industry standards.
  • Perform designing/engineering work/deliverables as part of the team.
  • Coordinate with the project team and clients to develop/finalize design specifications to meet their project needs with the ability to interpret Client specifications.
  • Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions and advise Client, and ask for assistance when required.
  • If required, assist, and support and help in developing junior personnel within the team.
  • identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/contract by raising technical queries with projects/clients.
  • Maintain own knowledge on the latest developments and technical innovations in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering.
  • Provide support during fabrication, site construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Produce Instrumentation and Control deliverables such as Index & IO List, Datasheets, Specifications, Requisitions, Installation and Hookup Drawings, P&IDs, Loop Drawings, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Instrument Location Layouts, System Block Diagram, etc.
  • Produce Instrumentation Calculation/Selection, such as Control Valves, Flowmeters, Thermowells, Cables.
  • Produce deliverables for Control Systems like PLCs, DCS, ESD, F&G, MMS, and prepare engineering documents like IO List, Logic Diagrams, Loop Drawings, C&E diagrams, Narratives.
  • Review and contribute to all drafting work for projects using AutoCAD…etc.
  • Monitor and report the professional man hours and assessing the progress and quality of civil/structural work.
  • Participate in site surveys, review Contractor’s site survey reports, and ensure it is as per actual site conditions.
  • Perform Contractors and/or Vendors Technical Bid Evaluations, as required.
  • Prepare and review of discipline deliverables including drawings, specifications, and datasheets.
  • Perform calculations for, control valves, PSVs, flow meters and thermo wells.
  • Control system specification and system architecture.
  • Review vendor documents and quotations for compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with cost and manpower estimates.
  • Enter instrument database content per P&IDs.
  • Observe the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment and Quality rules of the Company; it’s clients and the governing authorities of the host country.
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures, reporting hazards or incidents promptly, and actively participating in maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Ensure mandatory safety training is completed.


In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.


Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: 


Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: 

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in similar positions for an international company.
  • Capability of collating, verifying and handling information and producing/following instructions.
  • Adequate capability in using engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills.
  • Adequate knowledge and understanding of technical requirements in own field and level.
  • Adequate capability in design, development, self-checking and solving engineering problems.
  • Capability of analyzing, integrating and interpreting results.
  • Capability of reviewing, controlling in own field and level.
  • Being able to work with multiple and concurrently small and medium projects.
  • Capable of demonstrating ownership of responsibility for work produced.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to hold presentations and keep audience interested.
  • Professional commitment in following appropriate code of professional conduct, recognizing obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
  • Working knowledge of software like Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), AVEVA and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge (design/implementation) of Communication Networks is a plus.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Capability of planning, implementing and controlling work in own field.
  • Capabilities in estimating and forecasting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and skills.
  • Working as per the Quality and Safety requirements & Standards.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a global, multicultural environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones.


Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
