Kent Youth and Family Services is hiring teachers for our Early Learning Head Start and ECEAP programs. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive learning experiences for preschool-age children to help them develop school readiness skills. To enhance the parent’s role as the principal influence on their child’s development.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with assistant teachers to prepare and implement lesson plans based upon the children’s needs and interests, meeting Program Standards, Work Plan, and Curriculum Goals.
  • Interact positively with children to support their individual learning and to meet their emotional needs.  Communicate regularly and respectively with families and encourage their involvement in the program.
  • Meet with parents on-going (at least three family visits per year) to: partner in educational planning & goal setting; share health, dental, and development information; and to enhance parenting skills.
  • Administer developmental assessments, including on-going written observations of individual children for the purpose of identifying needs, setting educational goals, making appropriate referrals, and developing an individual learning plan for each child. Provide a varied curriculum and rich environment including multi-cultural and literacy experiences.
  • Coordinate and perform child health and development screenings to evaluate growth, vision, hearing, nutritional status and development.  Review immunization status and doctor and dental reports of each child, making referrals as necessary.  Utilize this information to develop an individual health summary plan, (IHSP) for each enrolled child.
  • Encourage Assistant Teacher, parent, and volunteer participation in all aspects of the program striving to develop teaching skills and enhance leadership abilities through classroom supervision and training.
  • Continue to develop knowledge and skills in the area of Early Childhood Education through participation in training.
  • Participate as an active team member in interdisciplinary planning for children and families, and other cross-component coordination, evaluation, and training opportunities.
  • Provide transition activities for the children and their families assisting in a smooth transition from the Early Learning Program to the public school system.
  • Maintain complete, accurate records documenting family and child history and contacts, storing them in a confidential manner.

 

 JOB TYPE/SHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, day shift with some occasional late afternoon/early evening work

 

BENEFITS: Company paid 403b retirement: current contribution is at 5% after one year of employment. Paid medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance, and paid sick leave.
