Reports to: Assistant Barn Manager
Schedule/travel: Part-time calendar year position - 18 hours per week. Stall duties - Friday to Sunday. Other duties can be accomplished on a flexible schedule. Some Holiday coverage is required. Schedule may vary according to the needs of the riding program and Kent School.

Position Summary:
The Stable Maintenance Technician supports the overall upkeep, safety, and functionality of the equestrian facilities and surrounding property. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with practical skills in maintenance, equipment operation, and property care, with the flexibility to assist on an as-needed basis, with seasonal changes in job demand.
Job Responsibilities:
Facility & Ground Maintenance
- Perform basic carpentry and general repairs around the barn and facility.
- Address routine wear and tear issues to maintain a safe environment for horses, students, and staff.
- Assist with upkeep of fencing, stalls, doors, and structural elements.
- Perform seasonal ground maintenance (mowing, weed wacking,...) across the entire property.
- In the winter, assist with snow removal and plowing in coordination with the campus maintenance team and the Assistant Barn Manager.
- Maintain overall appearance and usability of riding areas, turnout spaces, and barn surroundings.
- Support safe access to the barn, driveways, paddocks, and always during inclement weather.
- Drag rings as assigned.
Equipment & Machinery Support
- Assist with the maintenance of farm and facility equipment.
- Work in conjunction with the campus mechanic for more complex repairs and servicing.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and stored properly.
Stall Maintenance
- Assist with stall cleaning on assigned days
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience with basic carpentry, maintenance, or farm work
- Be able to safely operate equipment such as a zero-turn mower, chainsaw, weed whacker, and snowplow.
- Be able to work independently and take initiative.
- Have prior experience in an equestrian or agricultural setting.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Able to pick up, carry, move, push, and wheel 50 lbs
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
- Able to work holidays and alternate shifts as needed
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
