Title: Registered Nurse (per diem)
Reports to: Head Nurse
Schedule/Travel: Per Diem, academic year position
FLSA: Non-exempt
Classification: Staff
Start Date: 2026/27 School Year
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

Perform all nursing duties in accordance with the Connecticut State Nursing Act while adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
- Actively demonstrate a working knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, principles, and practice in order to holistically care for the patient/student.
- Provide emergency care to students, employees, or others on Kent School campus as outlined in nursing protocol, using nursing assessment skills.
- Monitor patient progress and identify any changes in status, as well as act on those changes to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Thorough documentation of all nursing visits and follow-up care provided for admissions or temporary admissions.
- Accountable and responsible for each student admitted until transfer of patient care or shift change.
- Assist School Physician in caring for patients along with giving a complete and thorough report on patients.
- Perform routine nursing care while adhering to age-specific and universal precautions at all times.
- Communicate with Kent School employees, students/patients, and their families as appropriate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Punctual and dependable.
- Be able to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.
- Collaborate with all members of the healthcare team, including the Counseling department and Athletic Trainers.
- Consistently seek educational tools in order to broaden the knowledge base of various age groups, diseases, and best practices.
- Maintain an active CT registered nursing license and current BLS certification.
- Understand the potential for exposure to internal and external hazardous materials, including but not limited to: blood, BBP, and infectious/communicable diseases.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in nursing and 2 years of work experience.
- Provide the highest level of nursing care to the entire Kent School community.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude.
- Possess a high degree of professionalism.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Must be physically able to respond to any emergency within the Health Center or outside of the Health Center, including moving a patient if deemed necessary
- Visual acuity within normal parameters.
- Requires substantial movement (motions) of wrists, hands, and fingers with keyboard use.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the Health Center schedule.
- Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
