- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university with particular emphasis on administration, management, curriculum and special education.
- Bachelors’ degree in special education and has completed a minimum of 5 years of exemplary teaching.
- Valid Michigan teacher or professional certification or special education approval, Michigan Central Office Administrator’s endorsement and approval or eligibility for approval as Supervisor/Director – Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education.
- Familiar with Michigan and Federal statutes applicable to Special Education in order to effectively interpret such rules and regulations promulgated by the Michigan Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education.
- Must possess exceptional organizational and supervisory skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with superiors, peers, subordinates, local/state/national education representatives and regulatory/funding agencies, constituent districts and the public-at-large.
- Knowledge of effective project management.
- Provide data analysis and technical assistance to LEA and PSA leadership in supporting MDE-OSE data interpretation and implementation (SPP Part B and C, etc.).
- Facilitates research and innovation for Kent ISD Special Education Department and provides LEA/PSA technical assistance and professional development.
- Supervise, support and provide technical assistance to the ISD consultants/coaches, itinerant staff and other assigned staff.
- Provide leadership and project management to lending library.
- Researches and stays up to date on current assistive technologies (including AAC) and provides project management and oversight countywide support and implementation.
- Organize and schedule countywide professional development opportunities as needed.
- Works collaboratively with Kent ISD Secondary Programs for the facilitation of special education supports.
- Assist the Director of Special Education in administrative and supervisory functions and such other activities as may be assigned.
