BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Health Careers Instructor EMT shall deliver the State of Michigan Curriculum as regulated by the Michigan Department of Education to students in the Health Careers program for Kent Career Technical Center.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Interim Occupational Certificate or Occupational Education Certificate in Health Science (CIP Code 51.000) with appropriate industry licensure
  2. OR Occupational Certificate (IOC) 4,000 hours of paid recent (last 5 years) and relevant work experience in Healthcare and current appropriate licensure updated and on file
  3. Prefer valid Michigan Professional/Provisional Teacher Certification in a related science
  4. Communication, organizational and networking skills required
  5. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  6. Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detail and team oriented, and have excellent communication skills
  7. Experience working with high school-age students and a diverse student population is preferred
  8. Must meet State and Federal certification requirements and be BLS CPR certified.
  9. Work Experience in Emergency Medical Services is required
  10. Certifications from the Bureau of EMS and Trauma & Preparedness Division of EMS required.
  11. Demonstrated ability to create, maintain, and submit licensure information for certification through LARA
  12. Experience with working with Medical Director for State Regulations with LARA

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations 
  2. Develop project-based learning experiences and effectively integrate lab equipment into student learning and assessment
  3. Assign lessons and correct homework
  4. Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents of progress
  5. Keep attendance records, and maintain record keeping as necessary for state licensure
  6. Maintain a positive system of classroom management
  7. Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems
  8. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  9. Perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems
  10. Facilitate work-based learning experiences for students (field trips, job shadows, internships, job placement), including clinicals with an EMT service
  11. Promote and market the Health Careers program and overall KCTC programs.
  12. Provide evaluation and development of the Health Careers curriculum
  13. Demonstrated experience preparing students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification examination
  14. Ensure a safe lab and classroom environment
  15. Commits to honoring the KCTC mission, vision, core values, commitment, and indicators of student success

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Work-based learning is beneficial
  2. Experience with or proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)  and Google Suite
  3. Experience with diverse learners
  4. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of education inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns with race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status
  5. Demonstrated relationships with multiple stakeholders

Placement on the BA scale is required unless candidate holds a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate. (BA Step 1-5 = $54,386-$66,017/year).           

  • Placement on BA 18, MA, or MA lanes is considered after receipt of a valid State of Michigan Standard CTE teaching certificate, per Master Agreement.

Salary : $54,386 - $66,017
