Schedule: Part-Time, must be available weekends

Salary: $22.66 - $26.78 per hour, based on experience

Summary:

The Medication Assistant / Care Partner is responsible for administering medications in full compliance with regulatory requirements, facility quality standards, and resident rights, while also providing direct, compassionate care to residents. This role includes assisting with activities of daily living, supporting therapeutic and restorative programs, and delivering individualized care based on each resident’s physical and cognitive abilities, whether through total, partial, or standby assistance.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

Certified Medication Technician -

  1. Prepares medications for dispensing to residents in accordance with individual medication care records. Organizes medication carts to help ensure accuracy and efficiency during the med pass.
  1. Accurately administers prescribed medications, responds to changes in medical condition, medications, or other circumstances requiring special care needs. Performs first aid, if required.
  1. Assesses medication administration and notifies the Director of Nursing of potential problems with dispensing instructions or potential adverse drug interactions.
  1. Assures that all resident medication records are accurate, complete, and all mandatory forms are on file.
  1. Maintains inventory of required medications and ensures that expiration dates are monitored, medications are properly stored, controlled drug procedures are followed, and that expired, contaminated, or excess drugs are properly disposed of.
  1. Assists in examinations and/or treatment of residents and carries out orders as directed by the Director of Nursing or his/her designee. Notifies the Director of Nursing of changes in the resident’s physical or mental condition.
  1. Maintains thorough knowledge of emergency procedures and responds to all emergency situations.
  1. Completes and signs paperwork, resident care notes, and incident reports and provides follow-up as required.
  1. Attends training courses and participates in other professional development activities as required.

Certified Nurse Aide -

  1. Assures the maximum quality of life for all residents by maintaining privacy, accommodating individual preference, promoting independence, encouraging and assisting participation in community activities and events, and communicating respectfully at all times.
  2. Assists residents in and out of bed and chair/wheelchair with the correct use of the transfer techniques if required. Depending on residents’ weight and physical abilities, may require the assistance of another aide or the use of a mechanical lift to move the resident. If resident is unable to reposition self, provide assistance to turn and reposition resident intermittently.
  3. Assists residents in bathing as assigned. Monitor hygiene continuously and assist as needed to ensure that residents and their clothing are clean.
  4. Assists in personal grooming of residents including brushing hair, brushing teeth, trimming fingernails and toenails, and assists residents in dressing or undressing. Folds or hangs clean clothing items and places soiled items in hamper.
  5. Removes soiled bedding and replaces with clean linens as needed.
  6. Assists residents in using bathroom and perineal care. May be required to provide, remove and clean bedpans, urinals catheter bags, and bedside commodes.
  7. Assists residents to dining area for meals or provides meals in room as required. Assists in delivery dining service to residents and documenting intake of nourishment as needed. Serves in-between meal nourishment and assists as needed. Records amount eaten by residents as needed.
  8. Assists in maintaining cleanliness, condition, and supplies in resident suites by observing and reporting housekeeping and maintenance needs and obtaining care supplies from the community or family as needed.
  9. Maintains all work and service areas in clean and orderly condition.
  10. Assists in maintaining resident records. Documents assistance provided to residents at the end of each shift. Communicates all changes and unusual observation concerning residents physical and psychosocial functioning.
  11. Attends training courses and participates in other professional development activities as required.
  12. Report any suspicion or evidence of elder abuse, mistreatment or neglect as outlined in Human Resources Policies.


Knowledge and Skill: 

 

  1. Must have excellent verbal skills and communication abilities.
  2. Ability to work effectively within a team based environment.
  3. Strong time management and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to calculate figures related to medication dosages, and amounts such as percentages and area.
  5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  6. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Qualifications:

 

  1. Must be able to clearly and proficiently communicate with people of all ages, while maintaining an energetic and positive attitude.
  2. Must be able to read and write English, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  3. Minimum of one (1) year in a similar position, with preferable retirement living or home-care background.
  4. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
  1. Be in good health, and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks.
  2. Demonstrates freedom from pulmonary tuberculosis by a health screening performed by a physician not more than (6) months prior to or (7) days after employment
  1. Must be cleared in a criminal background check administered in the state of Maryland.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  3. Must be certified in the State of Maryland and/or Compact state as a Certified medication technician and a Certified Nurse Aide and or equivalent is required.
