This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The School Age Teacher is responsible for the health, safety, welfare, and personal growth of each youth, ages 5-12 within a 1:18 ratio. The School Age Teacher shall plan, implement, supervise & evaluate recreational activities daily to provide adventure, enjoyment, and develop social skills and interests in youth. The School Age Teacher will follow child abuse prevention policies, complete required training, maintain appropriate boundaries, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
Job responsibilities
- The Assistant Teacher shall help plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate recreational activities daily.
- Activities shall be utilized by each counselor to provide adventure and enjoyment and develop new skills and interests in the children.
- Ensure the health and safety of each child.
- Maintain a professional attitude and relationship with parents.
- Arrive to work dressed properly with appropriate uniform and name tag.
- Sign In/Out accurately and approve time sheet according to deadlines set on payroll schedule.
- Plan, conduct, and participate in recreational activities with the group.
- Greet parents upon arrival pick up/drop off.
- Maintain site, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with the supervision of junior counselors, if applicable.
- Assist as needed at other sites.
- Supervise youth during special events, such as field trips.
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Sub at other BASE sites or in the Early Childhood Program as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by the Site director.
- Must be 18 years old but can be 17 with DPI course
- Required to keep First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificate current
- Must meet Wisconsin state licensing qualification as BASE Teacher as minimum certification
- Experience working with children
- Willingness to learn state licensing childcare regulations and procedures for Group Day Care Centers
- Ability to work cooperatively with youth, parents, staff and community organizations
- Ability to work with general supervision
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Background check cannot contain offenses restricted by state law
