Job Title: School Culture Coach


FLSA Status: Exempt


Reports to: Coordinator of School Culture and Safety


Supervises: N/A


Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule


Term of Employment: 10 months

JOB SUMMARY

The School Culture Coach provides strategic support around systemic Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) implementation in the district and to assigned schools through a focus on building a foundational plan, cultivating adult competence and capacity, promoting student growth and development, and integrating a continuous improvement process. The School Culture Coach will provide coaching for school staff and administrators, plan and lead professional development, monitor data collection efforts, and support program implementation of effective evidence-based SEL strategies. A particular focus will be placed on reducing exclusionary discipline among underserved student groups.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Provides systematic leadership in school culture and SEL that is based on research and best practices and aligned with district and school improvement plans.

2. Facilitate and collaborate with school-based teams, cultivating ownership of and promoting evidence-based equitable practices that increase student engagement.

3. Provide regular updates to the building leadership team and district leadership regarding progress at assigned schools.

4. Provide interactive and relevant professional learning to school leaders and staff on student engagement and social and emotional support for students.

5. Use a system to monitor data to identify and deliver school-specific targeted tier 2 social emotional learning for students and to build the capacity of school staff in strategies and interventions to support positive school culture.

6. Coordinates, facilitates, and monitors effective equity practices to approach student behavior.

7. Develop coaching capacity through professional learning including but not limited to monthly meetings, district professional learning opportunities, and content training.

8. Effectively facilitate coaching cycles that includes goal setting, identifies possibilities and obstacles, explores diverse perspectives and promotes reflection in the coaching conversation.

9. Communicate from an asset based, person first language using a variety of culturally and linguistically responsive communication methods.

10. Participate in other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Thorough understanding of best practices in urban education

2. Knowledge and understanding of child to adolescent characteristics and behaviors

3. Knowledge of best practices in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to meet students’ social and emotional needs

4. Embraces an inclusive philosophy and demonstrates experience with effective equity practices.

5. Effective and efficient time and task management skills including planning, managing, and organizing.

6. Experience coordinating and delivering professional learning for a variety of internal and external stakeholders

7. Skilled at facilitation, consensus building and conflict resolution skills

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with district and school staff

9. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to work within the organizational structure to facilitate change

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time; occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; consistently and repetitively operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machine and/or computer printer; regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information with administration, staff, and the public. Occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted.
