Substitute Registered Nurse

 

Location: District-Wide

Hours: Variable as Assigned

Rate: $24.155 per Hour

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  3. Valid Washington State RN License.
  4. Ability to provide own transportation.
  5. Positive evaluations and recommendations.
  6. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  7. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  8. Must pass a basic skills test.
  9. Completion of safe schools web based training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  10. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

  8. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  9. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  10. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  11. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  12. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
  13. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  14. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.


QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

 

  1. Demonstrated ability to work independently with large numbers of staff and in various buildings and levels in promoting the health services program.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students and parents.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop rapport and work with colleagues, such as the other school district nurses and building staff.
  4. Punctual and consistent attendance when needed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Supervise medication and specialized treatment, and dispense medication to students.
  2. Manage and monitor diabetic students, which could include the administration of insulin as well as monitoring and adjusting insulin pumps. This includes the willingness to be trained on the operation of individual insulin pumps.
    Maintain health records.
  3. Follow health provider treatment plans. Administer emergency meds if needed.
  4. Contact Emergency services if needed. (911)
  5. Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  6. Willingness to learn how to enter and use the School Nurse Administrative Program (SNAP). 
  7. Enter Health Room visits and treatments into the online SNAP (School Nurse Administrative Program).
    Help with screening if needed: vision, hearing, and scoliosis.
    Coordinate health referrals with staff, student, families and community agencies.
  8. Work with local community health and social service agencies to improve referral process and coordination of services for district students if needed.
  9. Maintain and monitor Washington Administrative Codes (WAC) regarding current immunization standards.
  10. Willingness to work with health needs of all children (i.e. bilingual, special education).
  11. Willingness to work in all buildings and at all levels (Elementary, Middle School, High School).

  • Mobility:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.
  • Sense:The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

  • Physical Hazards:While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
