POSITION: School Social Worker
The School Social Worker plays a vital role in delivering targeted support by assessing student needs, providing case management, and collaborating with staff, families, and community agencies. This position enhances the overall wellness of students and their families by addressing social, emotional, mental heatlh, and basic needs, as well as other barriers to educational success. Acting as a crucial link between home, school, and community, the School Social Worker provides both direct and indirect services to support students' academic and social achievement.
Kennett's uniquely diverse student population makes applicants considered to be fluent or bilingual highly sought. Applicants with at least three (3) Spanish courses at the college/university level or who have a command of conversational Spanish are encouraged to apply.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum
levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary. As required
under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), reasonable accommodations may

- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Must have Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Home and School Visitor Certification or School Social Worker Certification preferred
- Proficiency in technology for communication and research
- Ability to present technology effectively for small and large group sessions
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, and outside professionals
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Resource Connection: Serving as a link between school, home, and community to connect students and families to necessary resources.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Conducting assessments of individuals, families, and systems to improve student social, emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes; continuously evaluating interventions for effectiveness.
- Attendance Monitoring: Working collaboratively with school personnel who monitor student attendance and supporting the development of improvement plans; investigating absences and initiating legal action if required.
- Crisis Intervention: Providing direct support for students in crisis and participating as a member of the building crisis team.
- Family Support: Assisting parents and students in accessing and utilizing school and community resources; addressing family stressors to promote academic success.
- Transition Assistance: Helping with transition planning for students returning from hospitals, detention centers, or other placements; identifying and supporting students experiencing homelessness or in foster care.
- Collaboration: Participating in IEP meetings, instructional support teams, and multidisciplinary team meetings; working collaboratively with school personnel to plan support and accommodations based on various factors affecting academics.
- Communication and Training: Interpreting school and social work services for families and staff; participating in Student Assistance Program training, Restorative Practices training, and professional development to enhance skills in current social work practices.
- Data Management: Maintaining accurate and timely records that demonstrate outcomes and comply with FERPA regulations.
- Conflict Resolution: Assisting with conflict resolution among peers, teachers, and staff.
- Home Visits: Conducting home visits to identify changes needed in the home, school, or community environment to meet educational needs.
- Child Protection: Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
- Additional Duties: Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and Supports or the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten (10) month position (190 days) — Salary and Work Year to be established by
the Board of School Directors.
Salary and Benefits according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between
the KCSD and the Kennett Education Association.
