Job Title: Accountant
About Us:
Kennedy Oil is a Wyoming-based Oil and Gas operator with operated and non-operated assets across Wyoming. We’re focused on efficient, ethical, and sustainable production in the upstream oil and gas sector. As our operations grow, we’re seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting functions, drive process improvements, and ensure accurate Joint Interest Billing (JIB), revenue reporting, and AP/AR workflows.
Position Summary:
The Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, Joint Interest Billing (JIB), revenue distribution, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting. This hands-on role will oversee the company's accounting processes from transaction entry through financial statement preparation while ensuring compliance with oil and gas accounting standards and applicable regulatory requirements. The Accountant will work closely with company leadership and serve as a key resource for financial reporting, budgeting, tax coordination, and owner relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare and process Joint Interest Billings (JIB), revenue distributions, owner reporting, and related oil and gas accounting functions.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Coordinate with land, engineering, and operations personnel to ensure accurate accounting and allocation of revenues and expenses.
- Maintain accounting systems and reporting tools, including Quorum ODA and Microsoft Excel.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Work with external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals to support audits and annual tax filings.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field preferred
- 3 years of accounting experience, oil & gas experience preferred
- Working knowledge of upstream oil and gas accounting, including Joint Interest Billing (JIB), revenue distribution, and owner reporting
- Experience with accounting software used in oil and gas (e.g., Quorum ODA, or similar)
- Proficiency in Excel and other business software applications
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting functions.
