Middle School World Language Teacher (French)
The Middle School World Language Teacher reports directly to the Principal and works collaboratively with all school personnel to provide a safe, equitable, and culturally responsive learning environment with high expectations for all students.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
The teacher will:
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that supports student learning and encourages students to share their authentic selves.
- Teach the World Language curriculum and collaborate with colleagues to maintain a strong instructional program aligned with state and district frameworks.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives and district initiatives.
- Develop rigorous, standards-based units of instruction aligned with grade-level standards and district curriculum expectations.
- Use research-based instructional practices, including differentiated instruction, to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Regularly assess student progress and use assessment data to inform and adjust instruction.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research-based curriculum and principles of effective instruction in world language education.
- Provide targeted support for struggling learners through small group instruction and differentiated learning opportunities.
- Align curriculum and instruction to the Massachusetts World Language Curriculum Frameworks and district scope and sequence documents.
- Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress using a variety of assessments in a timely and consistent manner.
- Maintain accurate records and provide progress reports as required.
- Refer students for alternative or additional services as appropriate.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities both within and outside the district, including instructional technology training.
- Collaborate with colleagues, serve on school-wide committees, and assist with school-wide events and activities.
- Abide by all state statutes, School Committee policies, district procedures, and administrative regulations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal or WPS Administration.
Qualifications and Skill Set
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Current Massachusetts DESE licensure in World Languages required.
- Must be qualified to teach French.
- Ability to teach some Spanish content is required.
- Experience working in diverse educational settings and with students, colleagues, and families from varied cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Previous training, experience, and demonstrated competency in French language instruction preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Terms of Employment
Terms of employment are established by the Agreement Between the Woburn Teachers’ Association and the Woburn School Committee.
