Job Summary:

The Classroom Director is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and instructional practices across assigned KCC preschool classrooms. This leadership role includes direct supervision of instructional staff, coaching and mentoring educators, modeling evidence-based practices, and ensuring that the behavioral and developmental needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are consistently and effectively supported.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Supervise day-to-day instructional practices in assigned classrooms, including curriculum implementation, weekly lesson planning, and progress monitoring (TSG) aligned with student IEPs and developmental levels.
  • Facilitate curriculum planning meetings to promote integrated service delivery and meaningful learning experiences.
  • Oversee the fidelity of student assessment processes and work with teachers to model student assessment practices for the teacher assistants.
  • Review and provide actionable feedback on lesson plans to ensure alignment with developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) and differentiation to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Provide hands-on modeling of effective instructional and behavioral strategies to support staff development and classroom success.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and follow-up coaching sessions with teachers and classroom teams to enhance instructional quality and promote reflective practice.
  • Plan and deliver ongoing professional development with a targeted focus on curriculum, instruction, and behavior management.
  • Ensure consistent use of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) across classrooms, utilizing agency tools and checklists to monitor fidelity (e.g., zoning, center management, reinforcement systems)., School psychologist and behavior support teams to oversee the implementation of classroom-wide and individual behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Monitor the classroom environment and staff-student interactions to support proactive, and prosocial behavioral supports.
  • Ensure classrooms are equipped with necessary communication systems and sensory supports to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Oversee development and implementation of mealtime and feeding plans, including adaptive seating, food modifications, and coordination with therapy teams.
  • Review student reports and progress updates from teachers and therapists to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with program goals.
  • Monitor school-home communication, ensuring clarity, consistency, and responsiveness to family needs.
  • Collaborate with Family Service staff on a monthly basis (or as needed) to address family concerns and support home-school partnerships.
  • Attend and contribute to CPSE Annual Review and KIP (T5) meetings as needed.
  • Participate in all required agency and program-led meetings.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Educational Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Special Education Teacher or a licensed/certified professional in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in an urban preschool or special education setting.
  • Deep understanding of early childhood curriculum and instructional strategies, and appropriate supports for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • School Building Leader (SBL) certification or enrollment in an approved leadership preparation program.
