What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Specialist position at Kennedale Junior High School?
Primary Purpose:
The security specialist is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff. The security
specialist will patrol and monitor the school campus, including the hallways, lunchrooms, and grounds and parking areas. The
campus monitor may also greet visitors and direct them to the office for initial check- in. They will maintain high visibility
throughout the school day. The security specialist monitors and ensures that effective security measures are in place, such as
employee access to facilities, building surveillance, and other components of an effective building security system.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read basic operating instructions, write reports, and communicate via short-wave radio and telephone.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of physical security practices
Knowledge of state and federal rules, regulations, or requirements pertaining to security and safety in public facilities
Skilled in communicating across various levels of an organization to enhance service delivery, program development, and
customer satisfaction
Skilled in directing delivery of services throughout a district, assigned areas of responsibility and customer base
Experience:
Successful related work experience
Other:
Valid Texas Driver’s License with record of safe driving
Able and willing to work varied hours including split shifts and weekends
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Model core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties in an effective and efficient manner for the purpose of

2. Comply with dress code as established by the District.
3. Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross-
functional work groups.
4. Guard school building and property; make prescribed rounds of inspection through the day.
5. Patrol school corridors, locker rooms, restrooms, assemblies and athletic facilities, gymnasiums, bus-loading areas, and
other campus locations in order to observe student behavior and prevent violations or unsafe activities.
6. Report and provide information to school administrators and other authorized personnel regarding opportunities for
improved campus/community relations.
7. Regularly attend work with a minimum of absences, while adhering to the schedule as developed by campus
administration.
8. Prevent entry or report presence on grounds and in buildings of unauthorized persons who are in violation of district
rules, guidelines, and policies.
9. Investigate unusual conditions and take immediate emergency action as appropriate.
10. Prepare incident and other miscellaneous reports about crimes against the District property and offenses against District
personnel or students as requested.
11. Screen visitors, check hall passes, and assist bus loading and unloading.
12. Maintain a neutral, professional relationship with students, parents, staff, visitors, SROs, and administrators at all times
on or off campus.
13. Maintain high visibility throughout the day by constantly monitoring the campus.
14. Maintain effective and constructive relationships with the campus principals, campus staff, and district staff.
15. Ability to work within a diversified culture.
16. Work closely with campus and administration officials to develop an attitude sensitive to the need for creating and
maintaining a safe and secure environment.
17. Consistently demonstrate the ability to manage crises while under pressure.
18. Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with District and campus goals within the assigned area
of responsibility.
19. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by TEA and the district; file all physical and computerized reports,
records, and other documents required.
20. Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
21. Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
