The Kennebunkport Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Sergeant. We are a coastal town with seasonal residential influxes and an engaged community whose values are based on mutual support. Under the direction of the Deputy Police Chief, the Sergeant acts as Patrol/Shift Supervisor to direct, monitor, and evaluate the job performance of assigned Patrol Officers. This position ensures performance is in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, procedures, general orders, special orders, and directives given by Department administration. The Sergeant acts as the first level of supervision and the liaison between Patrol Officers and Department administration and performs regular patrol duties, including all functions of a Patrol Officer, and responds to and documents calls for service.
All applicants must be high school graduates or hold a GED and be at least 21 years of age, have a Maine driver’s license, and have Police Officer Certification. The applicant must be of good moral character and be able to pass an oral board, a thorough background investigation, physical examination, drug test, physical agility test (if attending full academy), polygraph, and psychological exam if needed. A college degree/or equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred, but all applicable training and experience may be considered. Applicants must have held a supervisory position within a law enforcement agency for a minimum of a year and be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
