Scope of Work: 

Under the guidance of the Deposit Operations Manager, the ACH Payment Operations Specialist serves as the Company’s subject matter expert for ACH payment processing, NACHA compliance, operational risk management, and process improvement activities. This role is responsible for overseeing complex ACH operations, resolving escalated issues, ensuring regulatory compliance, collaborating with other departments, and supporting strategic initiativesThis position partners with Cash Management, Commercial Banking, Compliance, Deposit Services, Risk Management and Technology teams to ensure the efficient, accurate and secure processing of ACH transactions. The incumbent will need to possess strong problem-solving capabilities, critical thinking abilities and organizational skills. 

Essential Functions: 

 

ACH Operations Leadership and Processing Oversight 

  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of all ACH transactions and related payment activities. 

  • Review and approve complex ACH files, large-dollar transactions and exception items. 

  • Monitor processing deadlines, settlement schedules, and operational controls to ensure service-level performance. 

  • Serve as the operational expert for ACH products, processes, and regulatory requirements. 

 

Risk Management, Compliance, and Quality Control 

  • Ensure compliance with NACHA Rules, regulatory requirements, and internal bank polices. 

  • Review ACH activity for operational, fraud, and compliance risks and escalate concerns appropriately. 

  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and risk assessments. 

  • Develop and maintain procedures, controls and quality assurance standards for ACH operations. 

 

Customer Support, Process Improvement, and Training 

  • Resolve escalated customer and internal partner inquiries related to ACH processing and payment exceptions. 

  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and service quality. 

  • Train internal departments and serve as a resource for complex operational issues. 

  • Participate in system upgrades, testing, and implementation of ACH products and services 

  • Collaborate with business units and technology teams on new product implementations and payment initiatives.

  • Understands, supports and adheres to applicable organizational policies/procedures and state/federal regulations 

  • Consistently emphasizes the importance of teamwork in the department and company at large 

  • Responsible for keeping abreast of company news and information 

  • Responsible for completing required training and policy review 

  • May serve on various committees 

  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and duties 

 

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong knowledge of NACHA Operating Rules, electronic payments, and banking regulations. 

  • Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 1 year of hire. 

  • Continuing certifications of Accredited Payments Risk Professionals (APRP); Accredited Faster Payments Professionals (AFPP) 

  • Displays high level of regard for trust and confidentiality 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products 

  • Displays strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Displays strong organization skills and the ability to multi-task to meet established deadlines 

  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 

  • Effectively uses analytical skills to solve technical, as well as, non-technical problems 

  • Ability to adapt to change 

 

Desired Job Experience: 

  • 5 years of ACH, payments, cash management, or bank operations experience is preferredA commensurate combination of education and experience will also be considered. 

  • Experience in a professional, service focused and fast-paced environment 

 

Desired Education: 

  • College degree or related work experience 

 

Working Conditions & Minimum Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical surroundings are generally pleasant and comfortable with minimal exposure to injury or other hazards   

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment 

  • Lifting and moving of moderately heavy objects on occasion 

  • Normally seated for extended periods of time
