What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher's Assistant position at Kennebec Valley YMCA?

Are you a creative, energetic and fun loving person?? Do you love working with children and watching them learn? The Kennebec Valley YMCA is currently seeking part-time Assistant Teachers for KV YMCA Learning Center. (28-30 hours per week)

This opportunity is a permanent, year-round position.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Teacher is a 24-30 hour-per-week position in the young toddler and preschool classrooms with some opportunities to substitute in other classrooms. This position is responsible for assisting Lead Teacher in all aspects of the classroom, including developing a program that accepts and nurtures all children in a calm, loving and committed manner. The Assistant Teacher must also communicate effectively with parents and colleagues and monitor the safety and cleanliness of the classroom on a daily basis

Essential Functions:

1. Be warm, friendly, and sensitive to the needs of others.

2. Relate well to children an have good understanding of Early Childhood Education

3. Help to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all children and their families in the program.

4. Fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission and vision of the Learning Center and the KV YMCA.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Experience and specialized training in the childcare field are strongly preferred but willing to train the right people!
